fascinating

the penguins
is yours
to explore!
From Easter
onward
you will
get the
chance
to see
our amazing
flightless
birds,
Antarctic
Penguins,
these amazing
birds can
be seen
in their
native
habitat.
Also get
the chance
to learn
about our
local Antarctic
Explorer
Tom Crean.
Tropical
Shark Tank
which includes
Fearsome
Sandtiger
Sharks,
only a
wall of
glass stands
between
you and
these amazing
creatures.
The Sharks
share their
home with
Molly the
Turtle,
Moray Eels
and other
tropical
species.
Hands on
experience
at the
Touch Tank – Hold
a Starfish & Stroke
the Rays.
Learn about
all the
different
fish in
the aquarium
including
Amazonian
species
such as
Piranhas,
Native
Marine
Species,
Freshwater
Displays
as well
as Tropical
Displays.

Teachers Resource Pack - Age 8
to 12 Years
Pre-Activity
Identification of various sea creatures which live in the sea
such as the following: Sharks, Piranhas, Seahorses, Starfish,
Crabs, Cod, Plaice, Penguins.
Identification of where the Amazon is located on the world map
and identify the Amazon River and basin.
Worksheets available on our website www.dingle-oceanworld.ie
, it is advisable to get the students to go through the worksheets
prior to aquarium visit. This seems to create more interest during
the visit to the aquarium.
Post Activity – Marine Life
Objective – To create awareness of sea
creatures and their adaptations to the marine environment.
Activity – Get the students to choose
two sea creatures and discuss how they are adapted to their environment.
eg Rays
in our Touch Pool are bottom dwellers and have adapted to their
environment through their camouflage. Arowanas in the wild catch
and eat insects therefore they are always at the top of the water,
they are always looking up for more food.

Post Activity – Colourful Critters
Objective – To highlight the different
fish found at the Aquarium
Activity – Get the children to draw or
paint their favourite sea creature from their visit to the Aquarium
and identify the
difference between fish and themselves.
Pupils are encouraged to remember the different fish they saw
at the Aquarium and bring them to life in pictures.
Please remember to bring a camera with you on the day to take
photos of your class day out, you can then send your pictures
to us at the aquarium and we will put them on our website for
you to see.
